The icon editor is a very basic version. I think only icons of size 24x24 are supported and yours is 48x48. Also no alpha channel, for transparency, is supported.

Thanks for the reply. Unless there is another way to change the icon in the runtime, I'll include my icon file in the zip for program users to use on their desktop shortcut.

I think only icons of size 24x24 are supported and yours is 48x48. The icon creator creates 32 x 32 pixel icons. If the icon creator is used to create the icon there are no problems with the .ico files. mspaint may be able to edit the .ico file down to 32x32, not sure. As stated by tsh73 you can use a third party app to replace the icon in the exe file with your own icon. I have, or had, used - resource hacker - for years to do this. It's freeware.

Thanks for the tips. I downloaded Resource Tuner trial, but running it brings up a warning from my Acronis Active Protection saying 'Possible ransomware detected - listing restuner.exe and 16 affected files. Should I Trust or Block? I'll leave it open until - hopefully - I get an answer

You will get messages like that from any app that will do this type of operation. No need to install a trialware app you can't trust I did install it myself to see what happens. It worked. I'm on Linux though and it may not work so well in Windows. It may be legit, probably is since it has a well made website, but I can't risk it with YOUR PC. I have uploaded an app to my google drive that I have used for years. It's a standalone exe file. No install, it just runs. Does the same thing re: replacing icons etc in an exe file. Freeware, not trialware This app I can trust since it has been one of my files for years and works well. drive.google.com/file/d/19JVdpjDNiW8tnVBB6NIWvs6e_-7ZRPJy/view?usp=sharing

xxgeek - The warning was not unexpected, but I was pleased to Block any possible nasties and use an alternative. I managed to work out how to use your suggested app, and changed the icon for my program, which is for running a TOTE at Race Nights - where videos of horseraces are shown. I offer this free to social groups running these events, as mentioned on my web page www.donjohnson24.co.uk/racenite.htmlSo thanks to your help and advice, my little Justbasic program has a more appropriate icon
