To make an icon of any shape and not simply square
Design or paste in an image at more than 256 x 256 e.g. 460x460 with Windows Paint from the Microsoft Store
Where areas should be removed next, in effect to make them disappear,
use brushes and 'Fill' to make solid discrete homogeneous areas of background colour
Click on Paint's function 'remove background'
Save the result as .png
Open the .png image with a program which can save it as '.ico', e.g. Irfanview,
to make an icon image of whatever shape is required
In Windows, a shortcut's icon may be changed by doing right click> properties> change icon, and by navigating to and selecting, a windows or customised icon, such as one made as above, but if a shortcut's target is moved the link is lost.
With Just Basic, a stand alone package of .exe and .tkn etc. can be made by using "make .tkn".
If subsequently the package should be moved, any included link would persist
but any customisation of an enclosed shortcut using a custom icon from outside the package would be lost.
- If both the target .exe and the custom icon should be in place in a folder or folders within the package, (with creation of the shortcut and selection its custom icon already having been done there), then the package could be moved and the shortcut could be copied, dragged, or 'sent to' somewhere else without losing its custom image.
